Tips for Job Seekers

Finding a job is easy - winning it is the hard part.  Read further about how to make the best impression and maximise your chance of winning that dream job.

Tips for new entrants to the job market

  • You have no expereience - acknowledge that!
  • Express a desire to learn and be mentored - prospective employers are not impressed by inexperienced people full of opinions and unwilling to be developed.
  • Don't be afraid of talking about your future goals and ambitions - but remember, this is your first job and you need experience more than you need the best fit job.  Don't scare your prospective employer off with dreams that do not align with the job you are interviewing for.
Tips for job seekers looking to move positions
  • Don't bad mouth your current / previous employer. Demonstrate integrity and loyalty, even to those companies you may not have enjoyed working at.
  • Sell yourself - you have experience & are competent - convey this. Put yourself in a position of strength - the employer wants the most competent person they can find to fill the position - make them believe that this is you!
  • Be honest. Don't be afraid to market yourself but stick to the truth.
  • It's always easier to find a new job whilst currently employed.
